What makes you happy? Happiness happens month is a whole month dedicated to celebrating what makes you happy. The holiday is based on the premise that happiness is unlimited and contagious, and that sharing your happiness can bring joy to other people’s lives.
Pamela Gail Johnson founded the Secret Society of Happy People in 1999, with the first day of “Admit You’re Happy Day” on August 8th of 1999. Members felt that the happiness should last a bit longer, so in 2000, they expanded the celebration to include the entire month of August.
Happiness Happens is a celebration and encouragement for people to take a look at their lives and try to share the little things that make them happy each day with others. Doing something nice for yourself is a great way to start, because happiness starts at home! Making someone else happy by a simple kind gesture is another way to get things moving along, from something grand like making someone a special meal, or simply by giving a compliment or sending a quick “thinking of you” message. Laughter is always the best medicine, and always look for the silver lining.
We asked some of our employees what makes them happy, and here are a few of the responses we received!
“I think happiness begins with your thought process. I am working on changing my “I have to” to “I get to”. I find when doing this, it helps me feel happier about something I might not want to do, and it feels more like a blessing.”
“Seeing the moon in the night sky makes me happy-especially when it is full. It always reminds me of my baby sister and the fact that since she was a baby (we are sixteen years apart) the moon was always something we could both see no matter where I was or we are today.”
“Vacation! I like having something to look forward to and spending time with family.”
“I’m thankful for dogs!”
“If I sit and think about it I am thankful for so many gifts in my life. My Kids, Family and Friends. My job, a car to drive, a roof over my head and food for our bellies. I’m also thankful for being thankful and happy I realize these gifts and don’t take them for granted.”
“I’m thankful for family, waking up every day, and very thankful to be a DP Air Employee.”
“What makes me happy are many different things. A book, a cup of tea, a rainy day, a comfortable blanket. A trip to somewhere new, a new language, new foods, dancing, the list really is endless. Happiness is not a destination, it is a way of traveling.”
No matter what life may throw your way, there are always things to look forward to, and there will always be a reason to smile. Be the reason someone else smiles today 🙂
