The holiday season can mean so many different things to people. For some, the holidays are about family, food and tradition. For others it’s about togetherness, shopping and receiving. However you experience the holiday season one thing is sure, the spirit of giving seems to be everywhere.
Every year DP Air’s corporate office participates in something that gives us the opportunity to give back to the less fortunate. Last year we participated in the Salvation Army’s “Forgotten Angel” program which was a beautiful experience. This year we decided to try something new so we signed up for a nonprofit organization called “Feed My Starving Children”.

Upon arrival we sat as a group and learned more about starvation and how prevalent it is in our world today. We learned that hunger is still causing nearly half of deaths in children under 5 years old and that 6,200 children die each day from causes related to undernutrition. We learned that Feed My Starving Children has sent food to 109 different countries across the world.
After hearing statistics and gathering information, we were all pumped to get working! Each of us participated by volunteering to do a specific task. Some volunteered to lift heavy food items and refill the stations, others volunteered to fill up the bags with food, some weighed the food, and others sealed the bags of food making this a team effort. While we were there, our group filled up 21 boxes that contained 36 bags of food… so we made 756 bags of food that will travel all throughout the world and feed 756 children!

The whole experience was humbling as well as enjoyable and it connected our corporate team as we worked together.
Even though it is fun to receive gifts from others, there is something truly magical about giving.
